Great Eastern Cities Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - UK / New York
Begin with a daytime crossing of ‘the Pond’, flying from your chosen UK airport to New York, where you are met on arrival and transfer is arranged to your hotel.
Hotel: Holiday Inn Manhattan 6th Avenue

Day 2 - New York
An included tour this morning is planned to help you get the lie of the land, showing you highlights including Broadway, Chinatown, Fifth Avenue, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Art Deco façade of the Empire State Building. The remainder of the day is yours to do as you choose – perhaps for a boat trip to the Statue of Liberty, serious shopping in some of the world’s most stylish stores, a coffee stop in Greenwich Village, lunch in Little Italy, a stroll in Central Park and maybe dinner in Chinatown.
Hotel: Holiday Inn Manhattan 6th Avenue

Day 3 – New York / Washington DC
Today we take the New Jersey Turnpike out of the state of New York, and find time for a fleeting visit to Philadelphia’s historic district, before cutting a course through Delaware and Maryland to reach America’s only stateless city, its capital, Washington DC.
Hotel: Hilton Crystal City

Day 4 – Washington DC
A city sightseeing tour is included this morning to show you the major landmarks – the White House and Capitol Hill, The Smithsonian Institute and Lincoln Memorial, and, across the Potomac, JFK’s grave in the Arlington National Cemetery. The rest of the day is reserved for independent exploration – allowing you time to walk the length of the 400ft-wide National Mall from the river to Capitol Hill, to enjoy the buzz and beau art building of Union Station, to choose from a plethora of galleries and museums, and perhaps take the Metro to Foggy Bottom, within strolling distance of Georgetown’s chic shops and restaurants.
Hotel: Hilton Crystal City

Day 5 – Washington DC / Niagara Falls
Pastoral landscapes and nature at her most spectacular – all are on our agenda today as we leave the city and head north-west toward Niagara. We’ll travel through Pennsylvania’s farmlands and the rural hills of upstate New York, to arrive at Niagara Falls for an overnight stay. The town of Niagara Falls has many scenic delights apart from the Falls themselves. There are magnificent landscaped gardens, casinos, a big screen cinema and plenty of restaurants overlooking the majestic Falls.
Hotel: Best Western Cairn Croft

Day 6 – Niagara Falls / Detroit
The thundering torrent comes to a crashing crescendo over the lip of the 800-metre wide horseshoe cascade. Your morning is at leisure to enjoy it whichever way suits you best. We’ll leave after lunchtime to re-cross the border from Canada into the States, arriving in ‘Motor City’, Detroit, in time for a brief city tour before checking in at our overnight hotel.
Hotel: Best Western Greenfield Inn

Day 7 – Detroit / Chicago
Today we will drive west through Michigan’s orchards and citrus groves on our way to the Windy City. A brief tour on our arrival shows you Chicago’s soaring skyline, passing Sears Tower and the Civic Centre before turning toward the hotel for a two night stay.
Hotel: Best Western Grant Park

Day 8 – Chicago
The full day is yours to fill with the things you like most. If shopping is what you came for – head for North Michigan Avenue, its stores and galleries earning the epithet of ‘the magnificent mile’. Those with a head for heights and a yen for cityscapes could not do better than the observation Sky deck of Sears Tower – 1,353 feet above street level. A gentler way to sightsee is from a half-hour harbour cruise. Historians can home-in on a matchless clutch of museums. And the lake front is a great place so simply saunter and people-watch. Plan something special for your final night of the tour.
Hotel: Best Western Grant

Day 9 – Chicago / UK
Whatever you didn’t tick off your list yesterday, you may find time to do this morning. There’s leisure time in Chicago until your transfer to the airport for your overnight return flight to the UK.

Day 10 - Return Landing
Morning arrival at your chosen UK airport. Times vary.
