Day 1 - UK / Denver
A daytime flight to Denver marks the start of your Jetsave holiday, and you really are on a high
from the word go, for the Mile High City epithet is no exaggeration. You are met on arrival at the
airport and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay. Check-in then check out the highlights
of the Colorado state capital. Wander along 16th Street Mall, where street performers boost the
holiday mood. Enjoy the Victoriana of Larimer Square, its stately buildings a graceful backdrop
to a lively variety of shops and cafes. Or venture into the Lower Downtown District (affectionately
known as LoDo) for an all-American meal in a warehouse conversion restaurant.

Day 2 - Denver / Cheyenne
The road today brings a whole new meaning to ‘taking the scenic route’, as we leave
Denver early this morning to cross the state line into Wyoming for a night in its capital,
Cheyenne. Views and vistas don’t come much better than in the majestic Rocky Mountains National
Park, and we make the most of them with photo stops along the way. Rainbow Curve is on our route
as we cross to the town of Estes Park, the Rockies’ eastern gateway, and there’s a
stark change in the landscape as we continue to Cheyenne - positioned on the western edge of the
Great Plains. An old cattle town, once a railroad centre and, more recently, US Military base,
Cheyenne shed its lawless image a long time ago, though its Frontier Days Old West Museum keeps
the memories colourful.

Day 3 - Cheyenne / Custer (Keystone)
Making an early start this morning, we continue our drive north to travel through the bewitching
Black Hills of South Dakota. A remarkable anomaly of landscape in ‘the Plains State’,
the 8,000 square mile region rises to some hills 7,000ft high. Many are cloaked in the dark
Ponderosa pines which put the black into their name, and all formed the ancestral (and spiritual)
home of the Sioux Indians. They are still revered by American Indians as a sacred place and, as
the legendary home of the Great Spirit, they have an atmosphere that is at once enchanted and
enchanting. A highlight of the journey will be a stop this afternoon at the Crazy Horse Memorial.
A ‘work in progress’ begun in the 1940’s, on completion this full circle
mountain monument will be the biggest in the world, a spellbinding sculpture measuring 640ft long
by 560ft high. We continue through the South Hills to Keystone, where we overnight.

Day 4 - Custer / Sheridan
It’s just a few short miles to the highlight of today’s journey, a much photographed and
unforgettable edifice of granite. At our first stop of the day, Mount Rushmore, add your camera
to the millions that have clicked on the faces of four former Presidents - Washington, Jefferson,
Lincoln and Roosevelt. Elevating these giants of American government to faces 60ft high, the
National Monument is an amazing sight and a major feat. Washington’s face emerged from the rock
in 1930. If his whole body had been carved to this scale, it would be 460ft tall. He was joined by
Jefferson in ’36, Lincoln the following year and Roosevelt in 1939. An avenue of all 50 state
flags leads you to the aptly named Grand View Terrace. After a suitably lengthy stop, it’s at
this point that our route turns westward, crossing back into Wyoming for an overnight stay in
Sheridan, where we arrive in late afternoon. Basking in Big Goose Valley, at the foot of the Bighorn
Mountains, the former ranching and railroad town has an intriguing historic district - which you
could explore on an evening at leisure.

Day 5 - Sheridan / Yellowstone National Park
All the Westerns you’ve ever watched will spring to mind today as we travel through the
film-familiar landscapes of the Big Horn mountain range. We enjoy a spell at Shell Falls and stop at
good photo vantage points along the road before coming to Cody - where we stop for lunch and savour
the spirit of the town’s most famous son, Buffalo Bill. We’ll visit the Historical Centre
and Museum in his honour, then continue westward to America’s first (and some would say foremost)
National Park. Yellowstone was given the status to preserve its astonishing landscape, a unique variety
of fossil forest, deep canyon, Alpine lakes, rushing rivers and geothermal springs and geysers. Our
overnight hotel is a lodge within the park.

Day 6 - Yellowstone / Jackson Hole
There’s wilderness as far as the eye can see and wildlife in abundance within the enclaves
of this protected place. Crystal cool waterfall cascades are counter-balanced with boiling mud holes.
Countless lakes and rivers share the park with steaming volcanic spouts. It’s thought that half
of all the world’s geysers are here - and you’ll have the chance to see the most famous of them,
witnessing the hourly blow of the Old Faithful. Hiking trails criss-cross the park to its remoter
regions. We will spend a full day touring its highlights and hot spots, allowing ample time for photo
opportunities, before turning south and crossing the superbly scenic Grand Teton National Park en route
to Jackson Hole - where we stay for two nights.
Hotel: Painted Buffalo Inn (08) Elk Country Inn (09)
Day 7 - Jackson Hole
A valley town at the foot of the snow-capped Teton Mountain range, Jackson Hole is a popular up-market
winter sports resort... with a rather different summer persona. There are hiking, biking and rafting
routes for lovers of the great outdoors. Elk, moose and bison roam freely in the area, while movie stars
and celebrities dine in the town’s swish restaurants. And then there’s the historic side,
which comes to the fore in the warmer months with nightly re-enactments of a shoot-out in the Town
Square. The rustic-style square is surrounded by a traditional boardwalk - an ideal strolling ground,
and there are bags of boutiques and eateries to browse and punctuate your day at leisure.
Day 8 - Jackson Hole / Salt Lake City
Contrasts in scenery and style are on the agenda today as we leave Wyoming’s river rapids to enter
the dusty deserts of Utah, and up the tempo from the sparsely populated miles to the streets of Salt Lake
City. An afternoon arrival here gives us time for a sightseeing tour to help you get your bearings and
show you some of the landmarks - among them the Mormon buildings of Temple Square within their high
surrounding walls, and the State capitol with its historical murals. Set by the Great Salt Lake, with the
slopes of the Wasatch Mountains as its backdrop, the city makes its mark on the landscape with an orderly
grid-map of streets, north to south, east to west, so it’s easy to find your way to Trolley Square
during your final evening in America - to choose a restaurant for a farewell dinner.
Hotel: Howard Johnson Express Meals: B
Day 9 - Salt Lake City / UK
With a full morning of free time in Salt Lake City, perhaps head for Farmers Market to shop for last minute
gifts and souvenirs, visit Brigham Young’s home - Beehive House, or spend a couple of hours in the
Pioneer Memorial Museum. This afternoon you will transfer to the airport for your overnight return flight
to the UK.
Day 10 - Return Landing
Morning arrival at your chosen UK airport. Times vary.
