Wonders of the Golden West Itinerary
Day 1 - UK / Los Angeles
A non-stop flight from London or your regional airport to Los Angeles, aboard a scheduled
trans-Atlantic service. You are met on arrival and transfer is arranged to your hotel for a
three night stay.
Hotel: Hollywood Heights
Day 2 - Los Angeles
A morning sightseeing tour is included - an excellent opportunity to get your bearings and an
introduction to the pace and Hollywood glamour of the city. A variety of optional excursions are available
for your afternoon at leisure, including a tour past the homes of silver screen stars or a visit to
Universal Studios® with its impressive Jurassic Park® ride.

Day 3 - Los Angeles
A full day in the City of Angels. Take a tour of the California beaches, visit Disneyland®, or call in
at a comedy club on Sunset Boulevard. In a day Downtown, take a tour of the Cathedral of Our Lady of
Angels or the new Disney Concert Hall, browse in the fashion and jewellery districts and enjoy the cultural
contrasts of Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Broadway and Latino atmospheric Olvera Street.

Day 4 - Los Angeles / Scottsdale
From manmade amusement to natural attraction, you journey today through rural America to Scottsdale,
a modern city set in the year-round sunshine and oasis greenery of Arizona’s Valley of the Sun.
Evening at leisure and overnight stay.

Day 5 - Scottsdale / Grand Canyon
Arid red desert, wind hewn rocks and deep dramatic canyons form the breathtaking backdrop today as you
travel through Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon with its menacing weathered monoliths, and onward to the south
rim of the simply spectacular Grand Canyon. Your overnight hotel is within the National Park at one of
the Lodges.

Day 6 - Grand Canyon / Las Vegas
Early risers will have the opportunity to watch the sunrise over the Canyon as the day gradually brightens.
This can be truly magical and should not be missed. Leaving canyon country, we head for the complete culture
shock of the world famous, neon lit Las Vegas. The state of Nevada (nirvana for some) has non-stop
entertainment, open-all-hours bars and state-of-the art casinos.

Day 7 - Las Vegas
Take a stroll down ‘The Strip’ today to truly experience colourful Las Vegas. Call in at a casino and see if luck is on
your side - or decide on something altogether more serene with an optional excursion to ‘drift’ through the Black Canyon.

Day 8 - Las Vegas / Fresno
Re-cross the state line into California and call at the ghost town of Calico. Founded on the fortunes of the
biggest silver strike in the state’s history, this atmospheric place is haunted by the spirit of the Old West.
Continue through lush farmlands to Fresno, just south of Yosemite, for an overnight stay.

Day 9 - Fresno/Sonora
A day of staggering scenic splendour will leave you speechless in Yosemite National Park. Forested slopes look
onto a landscape of alpine meadows, sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls at the valley floor. Framing the
picture with fabulous grandeur, magnificent granite mountains soar to majestic heights above. Mid afternoon, we
leave for the gold-rush town of Sonora. Enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 10 - Sonora / Lake Tahoe
Leaving Sonora’s fine selection of Victorian houses behind, we head in a north-easterly direction to the shores
of Lake Tahoe.
The crystal clear waters stretch twenty two miles long by twelve miles wide. The ‘Lake in the Sky’ is a
perfect setting for an overnight stay where you can relax, unwind and take in the cool mountain air.

Day 11 - Lake Tahoe / San Francisco
A morning departure from Lake Tahoe takes you via Sacramento and through the Napa and Sonoma Valley wine
country before arriving in San Francisco for a three night stay. An invaluable introduction to the
‘City by the Bay’, our included sightseeing tour shows you highlights such as the legendary Golden Gate
Bridge and famous Union Square.

Days 12 & 13 - San Francisco
Enjoy your two days at leisure in San Francisco - this friendly city offers a multitude of activities.
Leisurely explore the city and take in the sights of Chinatown, visit the various market shops with
their authentic atmosphere before visiting Japan town where you can relax amid the tea rooms and the
fountains. Alternatively, catch a cable car down to Fisherman’s Wharf to check out the latest fish catches
and enjoy the attractions out on Pier 39.Why not join our optional Bay Cruise excursion cruising around
Alcatraz and enjoying superb views of San Francisco. For shoppers, Union Square is the venue - make the
most of the last city on your tour. In the evening, this city offers great restaurants and entertainment
something to suit all tastes.

Day 14 - San Francisco / Solvang Area
We go south today to Monterey, the colourful town with a rich Spanish heritage and a claim to fame as
the setting for Steinbeck’s novel, Cannery Row. The journey from here is along the spellbinding 17
Mile Drive, paralleling the Pacific as it laps long beaches and splashes into little coves, stopping
for shopping at picturesque and arty Carmel, and continuing to Lompoc for your overnight stay.

Day 15 - Solvang Area / Los Angeles Airport
Today starts in the period charm of Scandinavian Solvang, a settlement complete with windmills and
Danish pastry shops, and continues to Santa Barbara with its busy waterfront and historic Mission.
From here we follow the coast to Los Angeles airport, where you join your scheduled overnight flight
for the UK.
Day 16 - Return Landing
Morning arrival at your chosen UK airport - times vary.
